pretty early. Start at nine in the morning Pacific. My match should be maybe around
noon pacific give or take I mean we could see it to our match anyway guys my
plan today we're gonna do some practice for new some stuff with my coaches
probably go over every bastion route just make sure I have it go every
overworld make sure I have it and probably do a few runs as well but I
figured before doing any of that it might be helpful to tap into the
Mental of what it takes to be a winner. Do you know what I'm saying?

So guys, tomorrow I'm competing in a Minecraft tournament.
It's called the mid-offs, and it's a three-day event.
If I last the whole time where 16 competitors go in a double elimination bracket
where they're all getting coached while playing.
Last year, there was a lot of drama in this event.
Because this event is kind of coughing baby versus nuclear bomb in the sense that there are some people who are absolute gods
crank in 13 minute runs
Genuine great speedrunners, and then there are people and I'm not even being a little sarcastic. There are several people
Who have never beaten the game ever?
I'm gonna repeat that there are several people who have never beaten the game ever
who are in this event. They've never beaten it, not one time. And the first time
they're gonna try to beat it is live during the event. Okay, you, look, I get
you're trying to make a joke, which I applaud effort at trying to be funny,
and I hope you improve on it. Obviously I've beaten the game hundreds of
times, so you've fallen flat today, but points still stand. There are people
be the game ever in this event who usually you'd expect they kind of get their their
they kind of get shitted on thank you very much black belt for the ten dollars appreciate it
anyway let's take a look here speedrunning tournament for in exist this is the winner of last
year's event who i believe people refer to as a bit of a coughing baby but the coughing baby in
this sort of sense ended up winning i was invited to a speedrunning tournament for
inexperience minecraft speedrunners and because i've been speedrunning various games for 14 years
I really wanted to win, even though I haven't really done any Minecraft speedrunning in over five years.
So, after ten minutes of quickly relearning how to one-cycle, I'm gonna play for four or five hours and see how fast I can beat the game.

who were all dropping at crazy time so we're just 24 hours before the tournament
started I needed to get a speeder on the board so I queued up in bank for the
first time and it went well in fact a little too well by 14 minutes I was in
the end and my opponent was just entering the fortress granted I jumped
the ending tried mine against them in my fist and I ultimately lost but that
was the confidence I needed that was that was the confidence I got into the
shit everywhere all over myself and then smelled it but that was the confidence I
needed and I was ready to take on Squiddo as day one of the mid-offs was

guy with a bowl cut I'm like whoa that's free mom I just go up squido just
about to make it. It's very fast with this. I think in the

Because I feel like what I've found is that there's a lot of Minecraft people who maybe don't do speedrunning
But like they just understand like Minecraft tech
Like I don't know they play like a fucking block wars every other month and they have to learn how to neo and speed bridge
Consistent run, so they had been unlucky in dying with that boat
But I still had to do my bit and finish the run plus
I think I was starting to win the cast is over sub 20 great performance
Nothing out of the ordinary there for us being really consistent and he might go on to win
That's what happens and just before my match ish had beaten cpk once again surpassing expectations which meant
Very hype indeed and it was at this point that I knew exactly how to win the mid-offs
You see before I trained like crazy and learned how to speed run everything
Yeah, but, as the matches kept happening, a pattern was forming that would allow me to have an advantage in every single match.
And that pattern was the Desert Temple.
So, with this knowledge, I knew what I had to do.
I was going to train loads and loads of different Desert Temple seeds over and over again for hours on S-mart.
And I was going to keep doing that until I was the best at entering the nether on those seeds.
Doing this was great. It helped me to loot the temple faster, look out for gravel better, quickly get food, optimally blow up trees, inventory management and would light the portals when I needed to.
It was perfect practice. And as well as that, I managed to finish day two with a 60 minute run, which I didn't record.
I mean, this guy's smart because he did like, three runs.
He basically did like, very few runs.
All he did was grind out like the specificities
of what's gonna happen, as opposed to, you know,
hey, let's just get ranked until we're like 1100 or whatever.
Paul, in the other mid-off matches,
is sleepy and pressed again, getting a 20 minute run.
And if I could get past ish,
It was starting to look likely that Sleepy would be my next opponent.
CPK also eliminated Masayoshi in a very close match,
and that Sleepy had his semi-finals match against Max Gigi's,
winning in just 17 minutes.
This confirmed that I would definitely play him in the next round if I got through,
and Sleepy would be the massive favourite to win.
But hey, I couldn't look too far ahead as Day 2 came to a close,
because tomorrow, on the final day of the mid-offs,
I needed to get past my match against Ish.

What I had to shift my focus now to the final.
Throughout the tournament, Sleepy had impressed again and again, and he was definitely the best player on my biggest challenge yet.
Everyone was putting Sleepy as the favorite.
I think Sleepy's going to win the entire thing.
But I wasn't going down without a fight.

Once again, my ingenious strategy worked because Desert Temple was the seed, and I was ready for mine.
It's kind of easy to force Desert Temple if you ban Village, that they'll often ban BT.
And I think most people prefer desert temple over shipwreck, I imagine
