So I could see that happening, but also in a scenario like this tier, let's say Echo
tries to stay up super late to kill this, and let's just say they don't.

getting a nerf on a fresh day. But when that nerf went in, we had 180 attempts in that phase
and they had like 195. So if you feel like you're going to have to nerf P1 at some point,
which realistically they probably needed to, I don't think either guild would have killed
at this week, or this reset without that nerf.
I don't know if there's probably not a good time in the day
to release a nerf that is perfectly fair or everyone
is happy about it.
So knowing that, I feel like if it's a nerf to P1
and both guilds have relatively spent
the exact same amount of time up to that point in P1,
I think that you're not going to find a much better scenario

phase and then by the time we went to bed, we were basically going to
fully show the secret phase and how to do it for everyone else.

So we were kind of feeling like the timing of it was just super bad.

There's a bunch of stuff with health percentages and the boss healing and some server-side
scripts which you can't really datamined.
They did a good job of hiding the secret phase for sure, but we still felt like there
was one.
said on stream, before we pulled Demensius, I said there was a 95% chance of a secret phase when we were on at day one.

But after we had done the fight more, it just felt final when it was over. Like it was so hard to even get to 0%. Like, dude, not even the secret phase, just getting
P3 to 0% is like one of the hardest bosses ever, right?

There's a lot of fights where we think there might be secret phases but aren't sure because
the same thing that you datamined that looks like it could be a secret phase could also

haven't used anymore or didn't end up using. So it's a little murky to data
minded. It's not like always 100%. But yeah, I mean I literally said on stream

was a secret phase at that point because the fight just felt like it was
over. Usually when you're about to kill a fight and you think there
be a secret phase, usually your intuition of like it's a complete fight without a secret phase would
be correct. And that's true with this fight. If there was no secret phase on this fight, it would
have been a complete fight. The secret phase wasn't necessary. I don't know if I think it was a good
idea because it seemed to make wow rating culturally more relevant than it's been in a long time
for Blizzard, which is probably pretty important like that secret phase shit yesterday spread
far and wide. That was everywhere. So it was probably smart for them to do that, but I mean,
the fight definitely didn't need it. I don't know if the fight was better with it either.
It was certainly more epic, but as far as like actual gameplay of the fight, I'm not
sure if that's true. Yeah, dude, on fucking Easter Sunday, too, on some on some big
big J stuff. They did it. The reaction of the secret phase was probably the best raced

How'd they do that? It's pretty complicated, but it has to do with, actually maybe it had to do with it being from behind.
But once we killed Illyria, we like sent a few upgrades on Vanguard and Illyria, and when Echo had to kill those bosses,
They saw that they were easy before they had to do them.
And maybe that allowed them to send less than...
I don't know. Or we just over sent.
I definitely think gearing is something where when you are doing it with information of how long it takes to kill the boss,
it's easier to make those decisions.
But also they were probably just more conservative with sending crests.
So that just, it's really complicated to explain, but that allowed them to keep more eligible characters
from the first reset rather than breaking the characters.
But because like what we did in a lot of our characters
We sent crest on them and then they proct a new main in week two
That's why we had to do so many more voidspires was to regear those characters with more mythic loot
And echo because they didn't send as many crests was able to actually just keep a lot of those characters and do less splits overall
But the whole gearing thing is like really complicated to go over anyway, are they going to bed

tremendous issues of visibility for players. It was insanely RNG in P1 and in P3. And it's

The secret phase part of it was pretty cool, but I don't know if that's necessarily true.
It's certainly really hard, but as far as good, I think there are too many things that made
the boss difficult that are not good forms of difficulty, and visual clarity is one of
them.
We had so many ways.
I mean, that's one of the hardest things about glaze.

won't see it now because they have their settings down.
I don't understand how Echo is behind on damage with more eye level.
I don't think they're behind on damage.
I think both of our comps do very similar damage.
They gain damage from having a second disc, and we gain more damage.
We gain our damage from having a Guardian instead of a Blood Decay, which is a massive increase,
by the way.
We don't have more damage than them.
If they live to the end of the secret phase, they'll kill it every single time.
they just haven't had that happen yet.
Here, in P1, I wanna show it to you.
So there's two things that happen.
So do you remember that the glades used to be purple?
The four pre-nerfs, these were purple
they made them blue after the nerf, I guess, to make them even more visually clear.
I'll show you an example where these are hard to see with crystals.
So, do you see how all these crystals glow in our bright blue?
Do you notice how that's like the exact same color as the glave?
So like, sometimes, glaives go through the boss,
and it's like kind of impossible to see this thing right here.
It's impossible to see that thing when it's going through the boss.
And then just like go through the boss.
And by the way, you could guess the trajectory if you saw this thing go into the wall.
But because the pillar exists, it can go like any different direction.
So it's really hard to keep track of, especially when you're like having to burn.
So there's that.
And then there's another thing.
So they used to be purple, right?

Look at this. Look at this. If you don't turn all of your graphic settings off, which by the way, if you do that, you can't see the constellations in P3, so we had to turn them back on, the old glaives used to be the exact same color as this purple thing.

There's some clips I could find of this, but there's some scenarios where if you're like top down is arranged in the last phase that you almost always have to be I can usually find a thdpo via this.

They do really well at that, but they usually favor that kind of stuff over like making it easy to like just for gameplay

Like am I crazy in like the last two tiers of the war within they had like a huge emphasis
To make things more obvious like starting from Gallywix they made like soak circles more clear
they had
Like puddles on the ground be more visually distinct. They just did a way better job of doing that. And this tier is just like bro. Look at bellarine like

the boss and rage is permanently and everyone dies. That's an entire other
thing. It's fine. Look at this animation. Doesn't it look like it

blackout their gameplay and then also our main broadcast it like instantly shifts to a scene that just shows like some player cams and stuff
This was basically done to if we were ever gonna get in a phase at the end of a night
We would black out cams so we wouldn't give away information
But like every time we got to one of those new phases and this is really unfortunate actually
It was like in the middle of the day
And it's like well, I mean we're gonna keep progressing and we can't like blackout every time we get to the phase

We kind of just have to stream it and the first time I did it
I was literally testing to see if it worked which was I think the first time we saw
P3 past the soaps
And I think I also tapped it during the secret phase

We ended up not we streamed multiple secret phase attempts after that
There was so much made-up drama this race. Yeah, people love drama.
How do you feel about Echo going dark?
What do you mean? Like, I mean, I can't be like,
well, I think it's stupid because we've done it a lot.
Basically, anytime we kill a hard boss near the end of one of our raid days,
and no other guild has killed it yet, and there's like two hours left in raid,
you better fucking believe we're going dark. Why the fuck would we give them
They're smart people hours to fully game plan this phase before they even finish the boss they're on.
That saves them, I'm not making this up hours of time alone, just by doing that, depending on the boss.
Not every boss is like that, but some aren't.
Like it's just objectively stupid to not go dark.
So like when Echo did it this tier it made sense, like basically it could only go dark at the end of the day.
The few times this year would have totally made sense to go dark is right after we killed Ballorin,
right when we saw the beginning of P3 and right when we saw the beginning of P4.
Unfortunately, all of those things happened like right after launch.
So we just... we had no choice. We had to keep streaming.
Especially because the viewership was so bad at the beginning in the first week that...
Going dark is a little bit of give and take.
it's we can't go dark all the time we can convince them to go dark when it really matters and
trying to convince them after bad viewership to do it all day is like insane plus it's also
just fucking lame a little bit right it's like I don't know it's like what are we doing
here like I think everyone can get behind like an maybe an hour or two of going dark
at the end of a raid day but like dude going dark like literally all day is like what
What are we even doing here? Just like don't even stream progression at that point?
Max from a viewer standpoint, I'd say watching a clean p2. Yeah, this was I would say the last two bosses they did
I think we're very visually cool, very cinematic, like Dementia's obviously, but I don't know,
this boss has got a lot going on.
It's probably fun to watch P1 even though it's just like RNG as fuck.

Like sometimes at the end of the phase, there is nothing on you.
And sometimes there are glaives everywhere.
And it's insane.

make it that random.
Usually what really good guilds are really good at is making a fight with a lot of randomness
more static.
And it can be just doing something to make that happen.
Like you saw us and Echo mess around a lot with like putting the boss at an exact pixel and right on the wall and right in the middle
To make the glaives try to be more predictable
Because that's what we're usually used to doing right like oh this phase is impossibly hard
How do we make this consistent? It's the hardest thing ever and sometimes you have to do some weird shit to do that
But that can make it easier. No guild was able to find a way
I think it is pretty impressive that they were able to design a fight
It's basically because of the weight. Like if these pillars didn't exist you could absolutely do some shit, but
the fact that these pillars exist and the fact that the
Glaive spawns are either they're a hexagon and it's either like top down and
then
this this
This this they shoot out like this or 30 degrees rotated, right? So it's exactly like this
And it's a straight 50-50 of which one you get
So there's no way to like perfectly have the same thing happen every pull.
And it's a that made this fight basically never feel that there's no two
pulls that ever felt the same kind of insane.
But yeah, the end of this phase was really RNG.

I think it's kind of ideal maybe for a raid fight to be like pretty balanced as far as its difficulty
But I mean most raid fights aren't like part of the difficulty with any P2 or P3 is how hard it is to learn them because you're
They're so inconsistently because the earlier phases are harder
Right like if you ever had the opportunity to just pull a phase
Hit a pull timer and just start at a different point in the fight
You would find that certain phases were a lot easier to do
It's actually one of the reason fallen avatars like one of the harder bosses
They've made in this game certainly one of the harder penultimate bosses and
Fallen avatars really unique in that you could actually choose to
Progress the last phase instantly if you let all of the lasers go in right away
You could actually instantly go downstairs and like learn that part of the fight and that made fallen avatar like
Literally a hundred less pulls probably because even though it already had a lot because you were able to actually
Progress part of the fight, but just anytime you wanted
Most fights, if you were to just be able to do that, you would do P2 and P3, usually in a lot less polls than P1.
Is this P1 the hardest P1 of any boss ever?

I think you would maybe play like more devours. Maybe that class is really good. That's also
not what you would want to play to have like more P3 damage. They're just like kind
good overall. But also, like, I don't think sitting rogue was correct because we had infinite
boss damage here. We weren't, we were, this boss is dead as fuck, right? So, if the boss
is dead as fuck, you'd rather have a trophic poison for all progression, right? Like,
about it this way, could you imagine if it was correct to like not play a rogue in the
end but then you don't play a trophic poison for all progression? Do you know how many more
deaths would have happened if the boss was doing 3% more damage? It matters, like rogue
not being tuned well makes bosses much harder because like a trophic poison is definitely
really good. Can you show Exiles damage in P4? Oh come on, don't do it to him. I don't
know, I didn't check. Let me see. So most of the damage in the last phase is actually
the Dawn crystal. Just just being alive in this circle in the last phase. Circles. Oh,
that's so loud. Just just being alive in this thing just does damage to the boss. And then
you also have a 200. Actually, we don't know exactly what percentage damage amp it's a
a lot. Yeah, so this the log of this looks interesting because like this is
actually doing most of the damage to the boss. Basically how it works out is that
I think if everyone's alive the whole time, Don Crystal does around 70% of the
boss's HP and you through a damage amp have to do 30% of it in that amount of
time. Yeah, so basically the DKs bucked the boss, Rett. Hunters didn't do a lot,
But they are also turtling for us, so that makes sense.
I mean, Xile was top five in the last phase.
Minus three i-levels from the majority of people, too.
Max, can you actually show us the difference between pre-nerf
and post-nerf?
I mean, I could, but it's not relevant.
You could just look at some old vods.
They used to be not 20% slower and they were purple instead of blue, which I don't know
if that mattered at all.
I think the blue was just as visually hard to see as the purple, but I understand why
they changed it and tried to do that.

Next thoughts on the new DH spec post race? It's a really interesting spec. There's really
no other class that has the damage profile of a devourer.
And also they love playing it.
They both had a lot of fun.
They said the class was really sick and really fun to play.
But it can kind of have damage pretty consistently, but it has crazy on-boss cleave.
I'm telling you right now there's going to be a tier in the next couple years where
you are playing four of this class on a boss where like it's all about on boss a
weak leave so like and Sarek our entire strat was built around melee
cleaving everything in a circle rather than like ranged duster lock kind of
cleave and like dude there it's just it's just if you can cleave things that
matter on top of a boss that also needs to take damage. Their value is going to be really insane.
Like this tier, their single target isn't that great. It's not bad, but it's way not as good as
the best stuff. But they're doing their single target entirely while full-cleaving all their
damage onto anything under the boss. And for some bosses that are designed, that is extremely
broken. Can you explain the I'm Fired Up Arcane Swap? Yeah, so in the last phase,
The bosses duplicate damage to each other and so you technically have a damage amp
We don't know exactly how it works. Be honest with you. I we spent a lot of time on that
But some it's kind of like lords of dread

The bosses did like a little thing
They like turned into a swarm and like it wasn't necessarily a damage amp overall
But it had it was like a we abilities do 200 more
But like it was really random which of those abilities applied

So they were terrible and you like didn't play arcane int or something or played one just for arcane it

Well, I have no idea what Method's doing, but two Resto Druids over a Mistweaver.
I don't know if that's because of what they were, like, gearing up, but we like Mistweaver
more.
It does a little bit more damage, and specifically on this fight, Mobility saves a lot of deaths
in P1.
For example, it's a lot harder to live on Resto Druid than it is on Mistweaver
Monk.
because they can move around more. So we like Double Mistweaver for that reason for sure.
As far as running a disc, which they eventually ran, that sounded like something we might have
wanted to do, but we thought the Guardian was going to require less relearning,
where the disc would have absolutely required some relearning.
Max, do you think Echo starting Beloran so much earlier was a mistake in hindsight?

I guess. We both thought that, or we thought that doing Vanguard and Illyria would be kind
of annoying to split, little relearning even though they nerfed Vanguard's, and also it
just would have maybe taken too much time. This tier gave you an interesting proposition
You could go do splits and you could choose to not re-clear boss. Think about it in every other raid you can't do that
In every other raid to get back to ansurek you have to re-kill
Nexus princess you have to re-kill silk and corn
It's the only way to get there unless you want to extend and lose all your gear right so
In this tier you kind of had a choice to just skip bosses that you didn't want to necessarily re-clear
And it seems like every guild chose or at least Austin Echo chose that like doing vanguard in Illyria
This wasn't gonna be worth the time away from progression basically

I don't know for the race. It was obviously kind of a bummer in the first week, but as far as I can tell
a lot of players, or a lot of players that actually play the game, not like Race World First fans are pretty happy with it.
They like the different themes, so I mean I can't, Blizzard makes the game for them, so I imagine that it could happen again I suppose.
I would say, if I were to guess, this is probably something that might happen
once in every like six raid tiers or something. Like, I don't think they're
gonna do this all the time, but I think it's cool for the game. As far as the
race, I never want to do Mythic Splits again, and I'm pretty sure if we try to
convince our players to make 20 characters for Mythic Splits again,

you applied a trophic poison to this it would just wear off in 10 seconds so if
it transferred to both bosses it wouldn't actually do anything

Lura doesn't have the Monk buff until Smack hits it.

pretty sure we lost with a day of progression we had earlier this year and

I think Echo and us played almost identically good
on these bosses, like...

Like, basically every single day,
basically any time during the,
going to sleep and waking up thing where we each got to the other team's pull count, our best
percentage on the boss was almost identical on this fight because we both shared information
with each other. We gave them initial Lura information, they gave us P2 information, we gave
them P3 information and beginning of P4 information, but this fight is still so execution
heavy like our consistency across all phases over all of progression was extremely similar.
both guilds were prone to being able to get out of P1 with high consistency and
also fucking run it down mid in that phase for hours. It seemed very similar.

Echo's issue was lines in P4.
Yeah, this mechanic is low key hard.
It's also just the exact kind of mechanic where like bro, when you've just been doing this,
when you've been playing since early access 14 hours a day, you're just so fatigued at this point.
So it's an easy mechanic to have that happen.
All it takes is one person and it's pretty fast.
What did you guys mess up specifically about your splits? I don't know too much about this
because I'm very much not a gear person.
I used to be like in charge of all the gearing we would do.
That was before we got very good at it.
And I always have a tendency of wanting to skip gearing
and just raid because I find it boring.
So I offload that to Bubba and Dorvon.
So I am told what we're doing with gearing.
I have very little input as to how much and why.
But I know that they spent less crests on Illyria and Vanguard's and that allowed them to make some more efficient gearing, I believe, but we haven't fully deep dived it yet.
Classic blame bubble. No, I mean, I believe it's possible that I mean, we're always down
to learn from others. Plenty of things I and we did wrong this year that we can learn from,
but I'm really happy with our with with what they're doing. I think they're really good
at it. And it's also possible that we we did what we thought you would do in a scenario,
But we just had to be the first person to go, you know like in a tier where
Gearing decisions are very important and spending crests are super important
it is a little different making that decision when you're the first guild to get to what should be the end boss of that week and
Like how many crests you should spend for ideal progression
Versus how much you should save for week two like if Illyria was a really hard boss you'd want to spend but like
When we made that decision, we didn't really know how hard Illyria was going to be and
And by spending your crests later you slow down your progression a lot
But when echo woke up they saw that a leery was very easy and they you know, you could argue they would have held anyway
They were pretty conservative on Dellerin at least initially
But they're they're making gearing decisions with also the knowledge of how hard the bosses are and what we've already done and

It is a phase you can learn to get better and outplay bad scenarios, but I also think sometimes that fight will trick you with you having a really good hour versus having just an hour of really easy P1s relatively, and it's kind of hard to like parse that in real time.
