like early 20, sorry.

thought it would be end of this year early next year. Alright, mind you, I've had, I don't,
you guys have seen this a bajillion times, this ring that's now on this finger. This is a, this

and Kayla have been together a minute.
So we had talked about it forever.
And I knew we would get engaged,
but I didn't know that it was going to happen then.
First of all, I just went to QT's Bachelorette,

Last time I went and got my nails done,

to get my nails done, to get that set.

or at any conferences for the next three weeks,
so I wanna do something fun.

But he was literally there with me at my nail appointment.
He was just like sitting there with me

But then apparently I didn't let him pick the color.
And the only thing that we could land on
was this like bright red.
And so then he panicked, because he was like, oh no, they're red.
And then he or somebody contacted Jenny, my manager,
when I was in LA last.
And Jenny texts me, and she goes, my nails are so chopped,
you wanna go get your nails done?
And I was like, nah, I just got them done.
And she was like, damn it.
So then no one can get me to change my nail color,
get my nails done.
So then I go to Cutie's Bachelorette and listen to this.

Okay, so Cutie has her first,

She has her first fear and live show coming up, right?

So then I route us to the nail shop, I walk in there.

for seven months

on how to convince Maya to get her nails changed.

if we got nails done together.

And I'm like, I've just always wanted to get my nails

I don't know how many people were involved because I also saw a clip of Rey reacting
to the engagement and she was like, he, he, I knew and I was like, oh, okay, like literally
everybody knew except for me.
Caleb came up with this idea.
Ragnarok, Jennifer, and Dia, thank you. Caleb came up with this idea last time we were in
South Africa, because all I told him for an engagement is I was like, I want it to be outside,
and I want there to not really be a lot of people around. That's pretty much it.
But also the dream is that it's scenic, and we don't get the chance to hike together a lot.
like we've gone camping a couple times but we don't get to hike a lot and like
to the point where if he was like let's go on a hike I'd be like that's
suspicious because we don't have time so when he was watching the South Africa
Streams he's like damn imagine the shot like imagine the shot of like in it
whatever and so then when we decided on Alaska he was like okay this could
work so this has been in the works for seven months and Connor obviously
knew everything. I don't know at what point Cutie was clued in but it's been a
long she's known for a long time and we did the entire Alaska stream huge
success. Apparently Caleb was panicking because at some point Caleb had to
travel to Kodiak like he had to fly there and he was stressed out about
his location um because we have each other's location obviously but I never
check it so I he turned it off and he was afraid that I was gonna see that he
took whatever like I didn't check it for three days so I had no idea so at
least we had that going for us but he was first really stressed about that and
then a dap dude everybody on that boat the whole crew knew the whole time so
So we did the whole marathon, the day of, the day of, like the morning of the engagement.
Me and Adapter packing up and me and Adapter, our rooms were like next to each other.
And so we're both packing our suitcases, streams off, so we're just like shooting the shit,
you know?
And I'm talking about Caleb and I was like, yeah, we're probably going to get engaged
like soon, like maybe end of this year, beginning of next year.
And he goes, oh, damn, yeah, yeah, it might be time.
And I was like, yeah, it might be time.
That was a weird reaction of me saying that,

And now that makes sense, at the time I was like,

And that's the first thing that I said to adapt

So that happened in the morning.
Our plan was to leave.
So we were in this bay in Alaska, right?

for this to happen like the weather being perfect because those planes are tiny.
Like that's you can't just like fly all the time. So many things had to go right.
And so the plane that we were going to leave on Caleb flew in on and when the plane landed this also
I didn't notice until looking back at it
But when the plane landed they had to get Caleb off of the float plane into a skiff to take him to this beach and

Blocked the window. I'm like sitting there. I'm like looking out the window because there's like stuff going on and adapting Gilbert like
Like, sit, like, block the window so I can't see the float plane land, because they didn't
want me to see Caleb getting out of it, which I didn't realize they were doing at the time.
They did it successfully.
I was just like, okay, I guess they want to be at the window.

And then, and then, the crew is like, all right, Maya, time to get on the skiff to
get on the plane.
I'm like, I don't know why I'm getting on the skiff alone, but I trust you.
So Andy, Shane and Tyler are like rushing me to get on the skiff and I'm like, okay guys there!

We were just on this boat for a week together, it was great meeting you, but I guess I'll just...okay bye!

This video is about trees. More specifically, it's mostly about trees and how they talk to each other.
Yes, you heard that right. If you've watched my streams before, you've maybe heard me talk about how trees can talk to each other.
This has been a thing in fantasy fiction, right? In like Wizard of Oz and Lord of the Rings and Marvel, which as we all remember, I know a lot about.
That is not an adventure.

That's what this video is about. I'm gonna tell you about that and I'm gonna tell you about like trees and how they do other cool stuff, too
You all know what a tree is right, but maybe you don't know what's underneath them. No, I don't mean dirt
I mean the micro-risal
About 90% of terrestrial plants are all connected via a micro-risal network
What the hell is that a common micro-risal network is made of
of underground fungus called mycelium, which are like little threads that either wrap around tree roots
or they penetrate through tree roots and into cells. A little bit the last of us. Okay. The ones
that wrap around the tree roots are called ectomycorrhizae, and the ones that penetrate through
the tree roots and into cells are called arbuscular mycorrhizae. One interesting thing
about this underground fungal network is the mushrooms that we know and love, like these
guys these guys everything that is above ground that's actually just the fruits
and reproductive organs of that network so like in some ways they're kind of
like fangs you know but that's a different video we can do that if you
want to go there but that's not this videos about this whole network tree
situation works out because the trees do the network get a way to communicate
with each other and pass resources to each other and the network gets the
ability to get nutrients from the trees and plants that actually photosynthesize so it's a win-win. At least
that's what we thought for the last 30 years. We will get back to that later. So the underground fungus
doesn't have the ability to photosynthesize right because it's underground. It doesn't have access to
sunlight but I don't think you're dumb. Let me make this very clear. I don't think you're dumb. And
maybe this is because I've done collabs of streamers and stuff where like not that they're
dumb but like right okay so the snail has even one pesticide yeah yeah and then
toast comes in and it's two sands oh wow so how many pesticides are in total three
but really one other video series that we can't do thank you for the simple biology
concepts like what is photosynthesis things that you guys want to finish this
or not are really simple really like yeah i know what that is but like if someone
actually asked you like define Pauline say thank you i don't think you're
dumb i don't think we're dumb i think sometimes you just need to

The weather
that we had, the streamer loot that we had
we had in every way like the wildlife that we spotted these moments that we
had and the weather the Sun it's snowing out there right now isn't that
crazy

So I figured this out and I've started to try to find where she was and make the scene sketch in the same place for the same materials.
40, 50, 60 years later and when they line up it's so cool because it's like a time machine.
You can like see what she was thinking. I don't know if that one's actually like a time machine.
Yeah I see the date too. So here's 1995 and then I make the same scan which you can see all my
pen lines. I just colored this one in and it's like she left me a coloring book. So here's 1995
and here's 2005 and so the glaciers totally changed. You can't see that mountain in this
one but these haven't changed at all and so she actually sketched. If you guys are interested in
this journey so Max has his grandmother's sketchbook from like the 80s and he is backtracking finding
all of the wild spaces that she was in where she made these sketches and he's redrawing them to show
how the landscape has changed. So he's an incredible watercolourist, he's an incredible person
and he's a really, really incredible environmentalist as well.

that would work for the engagement, was Ludwig texted me during Cutie's Bachelorette and

herself. I know she wants her nails done. I prepaid for a nail appointment for both of
you. Will you just make sure that she gets this nail appointment by 11.30? So I say,
okay, yes, because it's her Bachelorette, anything for the bride. So I am going all,
I'm being all sneaky. I'm like trying to get Cutie to this nail appointment
so she can get her nails done because it's a surprise from Ludwig.
We go to the nail appointment and then I get there and I'm like surprise Ludwig prepaid
and he made this appointment and we're going to get her nails done.

Mind you, the plan, the travel plan, is me,

to fly out of Katmai into Kodiak.
A float plane lands on the water.
Like it's one of those tiny planes that lands on the water.
We are supposed to get in that plane to fly out.
What I did not know,
they literally, adapting Gilly, were blocking the window.
I didn't realize that's what they were doing,
but they made it so I couldn't look out the window.
They were like, they were blocking it
because Caleb landed in the float plane.
That we were gonna get it, because he flew in.
And I didn't know.
And then he had to get in a skiff,
and then he was brought to this small island.
And I didn't see any of it.
And then, all of a sudden, the crew,

fly out on and then got pulled out into the skiff so he could get brought to a
beach. So he's hiding in the skiff and this is and while this is happening me
and and Gilly and adapter on the main boat and they're blocking the window so
I can't see them.

So that's happening.
We're packing up, putting our luggage on the skiff,
getting ready to go.
Me, Adapt and Gilbert are all supposed to fly out
on this float plane.
So I'm like, OK, time to go.
Then all of a sudden, Tyler and Shane and the boat crew
start ushering me out onto the skiff alone.
And they're moving so fast.
And I was like, guys, we just spent a week together
on this boat.

adapt we're watching max live like we're watching the the preview of the drone
live so they watch my proposal in real time and I guess I guess adapting gilly
recorded it which is so cute I would love to see that so they were watching
touching it, and then he proposed and then I said yes, and I got this, and I posted the

This cannot photosynthesize because it doesn't have access to light, it needs light.
But the plants have access to light. So the network will provide all these
tangled connections and communication, like networks of ways for the trees to
talk to each other. Then the network will pass nutrients up to the trees and
then in return it can exchange for photosynthetic, which is sugars or other
substances that was created by photosynthesis through that plant. So
So the plant is fixing carbon, and in exchange it's getting a way to communicate with other plants.
But it's not just the trees in the fungus that are swapping nutrients back and forth, no, no.
It's more than that. It's also plant to plant.

In the natural forests of British Columbia, paper, birch, and Douglas fir grow together in forest communities.
So they technically compete with each other, but there is a study done by Suzanne Simard,
which suggests that they also cooperate with one another by sending nutrients and carbon back and forth through their mycorrhizal networks.

So I said earlier that about 90% of terrestrial plants are all connected through the swungle network,
and that is freaking crazy, considering there are over 70,000 species of just trees alone.

They've survived all four major extinction events that they've been a part of.

like you you have to think about the pressure coming off of doing a stream in
South Africa like doing doing the South Africa streams where it's like they were
so good and they felt really unbeatable and like so so peak running it back was
really scary because it was like I don't want to everybody had such fond
memories of South Africa like if it's bad and we ruin it like that sucks so
bad. And it was the opposite. Like I really, exactly. I really didn't think South Africa
could be topped. And I think it was. Like the production was unreal. Connor in space absolutely
cooked. We didn't even talk about the trick shot. We didn't even talk about the trick

but I'll reiterate that was so special for so many reasons but one of the
biggest things for me is because it's very obvious when you look at the content
and the quantity of it yeah we're doing wildlife stuff we're doing
conservation stuff and like he's tagging along because he's a good friend
but like, adapt getting something that special out of it too was so peak. So peak. Oh my gosh,
the sickest. You cried at least three times over the trickshot. Isn't that crazy? I think
I feel like I cried more over the trickshot than like, wildlife encounters. So good. Still got it.
it. And then the fundraising was so sick and we got to go to Alaska Wildlife
Conservation Center. They were so grateful for the fundraising that was on my
stream yesterday. If you didn't see that you can go you can go watch it in the
VOD where your actual donation dollars are going. It's a really special place
and they're doing really incredible work. We also had the chance to meet
Dr. Oakley after the stream and she was incredible and so she knows about the
streams and the fundraisers that that we did and final tally was over $50,000 for
Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center and it was over $11,000 for the Ocean
Plastics Recovery Project. That's nuts. Nuts. So so sick. Thanks, thank you.

Like he makes everybody just feel unafraid to not know everything and to just be in it

and he's so, so, so good at that and it's not even something that he has to try to do.
He's just a natural at it.
he's just so genuine and so excited about things and so honest about what he
knows and what he doesn't know and that's hard like yeah exactly being
unafraid to learn is hard and being unafraid to to be very very honest about
what you know what you don't know what you're comfortable with what you're not
comfortable with that's a that's something he has innately and that's
really a really really special quality and that's what makes these trips so
good. It's a huge reason why these trips are so successful. So super, super grateful.
